My Weekly Diary:

Week 1 - Session 1/6:
During this session I started work on making my half-scale shirt. To start off I laid down all the pieces onto the calico fabric, placing the back piece against the fold and laying the two front pieces out separately as this was going to be a opened front shirt. To draw round each individual pattern piece I used tailors chalk and adding in the notches with the chalk. Once I'd drawn out all the pieces onto the calico I started on cutting them out, using fabric scissors.
After I cut all pieces out, the first pieces I sewed together were the back and front pieces, sewing them at the shoulder line across the top of the front and back pieces. To sew all pieces together I used an industrial sewing machine. At some points during sewing I had to stop because the machine became un-threaded so I had to re-thread the needle and the spool became empty so I had to re-thread that aswell.

The fabric that I have used to make my final shirt is black floral chiffon. Chiffon is a very thin and see through fabric which creases and snares easily. The reason that I think this fabric is suitable for this style of shirt and sleeve is because it is a floatly fabric which gives the style sleeve an elegant look.
